Dream BIG • Make Moves • Live Your Best
You don’t need to have your whole life figured out. You need a direction, a plan, and the courage to take the next step.
Use this guide to think bigger about what you want, turn that vision into a practical plan, and identify the next move you can make to start moving toward it.
- Dream Big
- Make a Plan
- Make Moves
- Keep Going
Your Plan May Change. That's Okay.
Your path may surprise you. That’s okay. This guide isn’t a test and there are no wrong answers. Work through it at your own pace, in your own words, and come back to it whenever your thinking moves on.
You can work through it on this page, or download the worksheet at the bottom and write on it.
Dream big. Make a plan. Trust Allah. Make moves. Keep going.
Remember
Your Plan Is a Route,
Not a Guarantee.
Work through the eight steps below in order. Each one asks you a few questions and builds on the one before it. By the end you’ll have a dream you’ve chosen on purpose, a definition of what success looks like, a plan to get there, and one next move with a date on it.
How It Works
1. Dream Big
Before worrying about how you're going to get there, give yourself permission to think about what you actually want from your life.
- What interests me?
- What am I naturally good at?
- What makes me happy?
- What would I love to experience?
- What would I love to accomplish?
- What kind of work would I enjoy doing?
- Where would I like to go?
- What would I change about my life?
- What kind of person do I want to become?
- If I believed I could figure it out, what would I attempt?
Write down anything that comes to mind. Don't judge your ideas yet.
2. Choose Your Dream
Look at everything you wrote down. You don't have to pursue everything at once.
- What matters most to me right now?
- Why do I want this?
- What would achieving this change in my life?
- Is this something I genuinely want, or something I think I'm supposed to want?
Your dream should mean something to you.
3. Define Success
A dream becomes much easier to pursue when you know what you're actually trying to accomplish. Be specific enough that you'll know when you've reached it.
- I want to...
- By...
- I will know I've achieved it when...
You don't need to know exactly how you'll get there yet. First, define the destination.
4. Build Your Plan
Work backward from the dream. What would need to happen for this to become real?
- Learn: what don't I know yet?
- Research: what information do I need?
- Do: what actions will move me closer?
- Get: what skills, qualifications, resources or experience do I need?
- Find: who could help me? Who has already done what I'm trying to do?
Then put those things in the order that makes the most sense.
5. Make Moves
This is where your dream starts becoming real. Don't overwhelm yourself trying to figure out every move for the next five years. Ask one question: what do I need to do next?
- What am I going to do?
- By when?
Then do it, and check it off. Next move, do it, check it off, next move. That's how big dreams become real.
6. Keep Going
Your plan probably won't happen exactly the way you imagine it. Expect obstacles, rejection, mistakes and things that don't work. That doesn't automatically mean you're going in the wrong direction.
- Learn: what happened?
- Adjust: what should I change?
- Try again: what's my next move?
Be willing to change the plan while continuing to pursue what matters.
7. Trust Allah
Make your plan. Do the work. Make dua. Then trust Allah with what you cannot control.
Sometimes the opportunity you wanted doesn't happen. Sometimes the path changes. Sometimes another door opens that you never planned for.
- What opportunity might I be overlooking simply because it wasn't part of my original plan?
Your responsibility is to keep doing your part while trusting Allah with the outcome.
8. Live Your Best
Don't become so focused on your destination that you forget to live along the way. Keep growing. Do things that matter to you. Spend time with people you love. Protect your faith. Help other people when you're able.
- What am I grateful for today?
- Who am I grateful for?
- Who could I help as I grow?
You can be grateful for today and excited for tomorrow.
